São Paulo, August 10, 2022 – UOL EdTech, Brazil’s largest education technology company, announces the expansion of its operations into Latin America through the internationalization of its B2C vertical, Passei Direto, Brazil’s largest study network. This move includes the launch of the brand Studenta, backed by an investment of BRL 30 million over the next two years.
With the goal of broadening access to knowledge and driving digital transformation in education, starting in August, Studenta will provide students across Latin America with a collaborative study network. This platform will offer streamlined access to study materials, summaries, exercise lists, articles, and other learning resources, all in one place.
Just as students throughout Brazil already benefit from Passei Direto, the expansion and internationalization of this network under the new brand will bring collective learning and knowledge-sharing experiences to all Spanish-speaking countries in the region.
According to Alex Augusto, CEO of UOL EdTech, the brand enters Latin America with the unique promise of delivering more value and a richer experience to users:
“Passei Direto is a highly successful case in Brazil, growing exponentially and helping students across the country achieve their goals through meaningful collaboration. By connecting students, we are making a significant contribution to education. Technology truly connects people, and Passei Direto is a shining example of this. Our goal is to leverage the lessons we’ve learned in Brazil and apply them to other markets as part of UOL EdTech’s international expansion plans.”
The new brand, Studenta, places students at the center of its mission. Its name incorporates the root “Stud,” which is recognizable across various languages, making it intuitive and easy to understand. Visually, the logo evolves from the iconic graduation cap of Passei Direto, maintaining the brand’s color palette while reflecting a fun, vibrant, and youthful identity.
“We’re taking the first step toward expansion across Latin America in 2022. Passei Direto is an incredibly scalable platform with a strong collaborative learning effect, where the more users and shared content, the greater the value delivered to everyone,” says André Simões, co-founder and Director of Passei Direto.
Founded in 2012, Passei Direto offers a proprietary digital platform where content creators and students can produce and share materials across diverse areas of knowledge. In Brazil, Passei Direto boasts over 4 million active users, out of a total of more than 37 million registered users, with 14 million pieces of shared content and approximately 64,000 subjects spanning all educational levels. Since 2021, it has been part of UOL EdTech’s digital education ecosystem.
With this expansion, the platform’s potential for impact grows significantly, targeting approximately 70 million new students.
The internationalization comes amid rapid digital acceleration in education, driven by the COVID-19 pandemic, which saw educational institutions breaking traditional geographic barriers to deliver remote classes. In this new context, Studenta emerges as a solution reaffirming the viability of online learning. Its collaborative study network supports distance learning and fosters knowledge sharing.
“We aim to become the largest study network in the world, and expanding into Latin America is the first step toward entering new markets,” concludes Alex Augusto.
